Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using Utopedia (learn.utopiacircle.org), operated by UtopiaCircle (“UtopiaCircle”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing or using Utopedia, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
1. About the Platform
Utopedia is a free, open-access digital knowledge library and academic platform operated by UtopiaCircle.org, a knowledge organisation founded and registered in Nigeria. Utopedia provides access to library entries, research publications, simplified editions of academic papers, contributor profiles, and related features (collectively, “the Service”).
2. Eligibility
Utopedia is open to all users. Reading and browsing the library requires no account. Creating a Scholar account requires that you are at least 16 years of age. By creating an account, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and that you will maintain its accuracy.
3. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at info@utopiacircle.org if you believe your account has been compromised. UtopiaCircle is not liable for losses arising from unauthorised use of your account.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Utopedia only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You must not:
- Submit content that is plagiarised, fraudulent, or misattributed
- Misrepresent your academic credentials or institutional affiliation
- Use the platform to distribute spam, malware, or unsolicited commercial communications
- Attempt to access, disrupt, or damage the platform’s systems or data
- Use the platform to harass, defame, or harm any person
- Reproduce, distribute, or commercially exploit Utopedia content without authorisation
5. Intellectual Property
Content published on Utopedia remains the intellectual property of its named contributors, subject to the licence they grant to UtopiaCircle on submission. UtopiaCircle retains rights to the Utopedia platform, design, branding, and editorial infrastructure. Utopedia’s name, logo, and associated marks are the property of UtopiaCircle and may not be used without written permission.
Readers may quote from Utopedia entries for educational, journalistic, or research purposes, provided they attribute the quote to the named author, the entry title, and Utopedia (learn.utopiacircle.org). Reproduction of substantial portions of entries for commercial purposes requires written permission from UtopiaCircle.
6. Contributor Licence
By submitting content to Utopedia, you grant UtopiaCircle a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, display, distribute, and archive your content on the Utopedia platform and its affiliated channels. You retain ownership of your content. UtopiaCircle does not claim ownership of contributor submissions.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
Utopedia provides its content for educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on Utopedia constitutes professional medical, legal, financial, or any other form of regulated professional advice. While we maintain rigorous editorial standards, we make no warranty that every entry is free from error. Readers should verify critical information independently before acting on it.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, UtopiaCircle shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the platform or its content.
9. Modifications to the Service
UtopiaCircle reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the Service at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of significant changes that affect users’ existing accounts or access.
10. Governing Law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Nigeria.
